Jô, or João Alves de Assis Silva to give him his full title, became the club's record signing in July 2008 when he sealed a move from CSKA Moscow.
The 21-year-old penned a four-year deal and became Mark Hughes' first capture as City manager.
He arrived at the Club with a record of 44 goals in 77 games for CSKA after joining them from Corinthians in 2005.
During his time in the Russian capital, Jô helped CSKA to two Super Cups and a Premier League and cup double in 2006.
He scored his first goals for the Blues in a 2-1 UEFA Cup victory against AC Omonia in Cyprus in October 2008, before opening his Premier League account in the following game against Portsmouth.
However, goals and starts proved to be hard to come by as the season progressed, and in January Jô was loaned out to Premier League rivals Everton where he made twelve appearances and scored five times. David Moyes was impressed enough to secure a season-long loan deal for the striker in July 2009, but after struggling he was loaned to Turkish club Galatasaray the following January.
