Sanchez pursuit (#717) on 17-05-2011 at 11:45:18

Skysports.com understands that City officials have already made one trip to Italy to talk terms over a move and now Italian sources claim that chairman Pozzo flew to England on Monday to meet them.

Pozzo insists that Sanchez's future will not be decided until the end of the season, but he already knows that he is almost powerless to keep the South American star.

Manchester City's hopes of signing Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez appear to be weakening with Barcelona now in pole position for his signature.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old Udinese winger as they prepare their squad for Champions League football next season.

But last week coach Attilio Lombardo admitted City's focus was moving away from Sanchez, and now Barca are expected to hold talks with Sanchez' representative Fernando Felicevich, report The Times.

News from Lombardo:

The signing of Alexis Sanchez would be a "major boost" for Manchester City, according to assistant coach Attilio Lombardo.

City are one of five clubs currently attempting to sign the Udinese forward, with Manchester United, Juventus, Inter and Barcelona all in negotiations with the Serie A club.

It is believed that Barcelona are currently leading the chase for the Chile international, 22, but Lombardo hopes City can manage to convince Sanchez to move to Eastlands.

"He is an excellent player for any big club in Europe," Lombardo told Il Friuli. "This season he has often proved to be one of the best in the Italian championship.

"He is a very fast player, a great champion, with a great personality and touch of the ball. I repeat, it would be a major boost for any team.

"For now he is a very valuable player for Udinese and we respect that. What I can say is that Manchester City are always aware of what's happening around great players and Alexis Sanchez fits the profile of football that our club is looking for."

As for whether City had made an offer of £33.5 million for the player, Lombardo was reluctant to discuss specifics.

"It's not something I can comment on," he said. "The company is working hard on purchases, but I'm not authorised to give any details, let alone talk about figures.

"There are people in charge, working with the coaching staff. This is what I can say. The market is an important issue and we want a great team for next season, with great players."

Udinese say no deal has been brokered with Barcelona for Alexis Sanchez amid weekend reports the starlet would be flying in to finalise the transfer.

The 22-year-old forward is currently training with the Chile national squad ahead of next month's Copa America, but was thought to be ready to leave the camp to rubber-stamp a move to the Nou Camp.

The Catalan giants have reportedly offered 28million euros (£24.6m) up front along with an 11m euro (£9.6m) bonus and promising youngster Jonathan Soriano in exchange.

Udinese attacker Alexis Sanchez has made it clear that he wants to join Barcelona in order to develop into the best player in the world.

The 22-year-old is one of the most sought-after players of the summer transfer window and is widely believed to be on his way to the Catalan giants ahead of the 2011-12 campaign.

Gino Pozzo, the son of Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, recently revealed that Sanchez had no preference between a move to either Barcelona or Manchester City.

However, Sport quotes the Chilean as saying: "I dream of playing for Barcelona, because I have the chance to win a lot of trophies there. My biggest objective is to win a lot of silverware.
