Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has rubbished any suggestion that club captain and star man Carlos Tevez is about to walk away from the club.

The Argentine striker has been dogged by reports that he is homesick and wants to return to the country of his birth after four years in England.

Team-mate Roque Santa Cruz has been quoted as saying the club captain wants to be back 'among his people' in Argentina and that he thinks Tevez will return to his homeland after his current deal with City ends in 2014.

The former Manchester United frontman has unquestionably been City's best player this season, scoring seven goals and helping the club cement their place in the top four.

However he limped off with a thigh injury during last weekend's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and has taken the opportunity to get some rest and recuperation in South America.

Speaking ahead of the weekend trip to Wolves, Mancini insisted Tevez trip home was only temporary and that he will return to Eastlands next Monday.

'I think it is normal when you are in another country for a long time [to be homesick],' said Mancini. 'Sometimes probably you can need your country, you need your family, this is normal.

'I think he has his job here, a fantastic job. There is no problem.'

Asked if he was worried Tevez might not see out the whole of his contract at City, the Italian replied: 'No, not at all.'

Mancini also reiterated his desire for Argentina to give the striker some time off from a hectic international schedule; Tevez is expected to be included in the Argentina squad to face Brazil next month.

He added: 'I think maybe some time when they [Argentina] have a friendly match it is better for him to stay here to recover if it is possible

'It would be better for us and better for him, but when they have important games with the national team I think it is difficult.'
