Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany has stated that the Eastlands side are a much improved outfit on last season after Roberto Mancini’s side held on to a 2-1 home scoreline against West Ham United on Sunday.

The Belgian centre-half was called upon a number of times as City had to pull down the shutters to keep West Ham at bay in a second half which was far more uncomfortable than City would have liked. But Kompany was still positive despite the win being slightly hard-fought.

“Last season we would have lost points in a game like this. We’re really happy because it wasn’t easy,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think we got over confident in the second half. It could have gone wrong and in previous seasons, it could have hurt us but we defended well and it was an important victory.”

City 'keeper Joe Hart was also required to quell United. The England number one was confident that, if needed, City had another goal in them:

“It was a bit nervy, but I think if we needed to step it up another gear we could have done.  We got the two goals, but it’s fair to say we got sloppy and let them back in it.”
