Not even the lethal finishing of Sergio Aguero could kill off Fulham as City failed their first Premier League test after their Champions League debut.

Fulham boss Martin Jol claimed his side had “come back from the death” to stop City extending their winning league start to the season.

But teams who win titles do not hand out such lifelines to opponents sitting at the bottom of the table.

Despite not creating the chances their domination of possession demanded, Aguero scored goals in each half to take his tally to eight in five Premier League matches – or a goal every 41.1 minutes.
