David Silva has spoken of his relationship with the City fans after a dream first seven months with the Blues.

The triple-time Player of the Month believes the way the supporters have embraced him since his arrival from Valencia has played a huge part in his successful transition from La Liga to the Premier League.

“Before I arrived I asked Javier Garrido about Manchester City and how things are here in Manchester and he told me I should get over here because this is a fantastic club,” he said.

“I’d already heard that City fans were loyal and passionate but to play in front of them is a privilege. They shout and sing all the time and they always support the team through thick and thin.

Silva was born and raised in Gran Canaria and grew up supporting his local club, Las Palmas, though he never imagined he’d one day make it himself and represent his country at a World Cup.

“From the first moments I can remember, when I was a child I played football every day,” he recalled. “My father and my uncle used to enjoy playing football and I started to play thanks to them.

“Of course, as a kid, you dream about becoming a footballer, but I never imagined I would be able to be a professional player.

“I come from a loving, close family and had a normal life in Gran Canaria.  I was a big fan of our local team, Las Palmas, who were based on the opposite side of the island.

“I would go to watch them whenever I could but my hero was Michael Laudrup – a brilliant, skilful midfielder who played for Real Madrid and Juventus during his career. I suppose if I studied anyone closely, it would have to have been him.

“Away from football I like to be together with all my family and friends, going to the cinema and just relaxing. My main focus away from the game this season, however, has been my English lessons!

“I want to learn as much English as quickly as I can so I can communicate even better with my team-mates.”
